Objectives: Participants will learn how to organize their message so the reader is influenced to accept a particular viewpoint. This course will cover tone, structure, and tools for composing a piece of writing that influences a desired outcome.

Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

•        Identify key elements in influencing others
•        Consider the use of tone and how it influences a reader's acceptance of ideas
•        Develop a structure for putting together a written persuasive case
•        Determine the effectiveness of simile, metaphor, anecdote, and data as persuasive writing         tools
•        Analyze effective persuasive techniques in various works
•        Provide reasons to support a stated opinion
•        Organize ideas and write a persuasive piece
